Exciting day at Christ Preschool.....the Eagan Fire Department came for a visit!! Yes, it was a planned one without any emergencies! The two firefigthers came into the classroom and talked with the children about fire safety. Do they know where to go at their house in case of a fire? Do they know what a smoke alarm sounds like? Do you hide under your bed if you hear the smoke detector? Do you reach for things on the stove? Those are questions that parents need to have with their preschoolers. The officers also played a game with the children asking them what objects, on the cards, were safe to play with or dangerous! The preschoolers did a great job! Then, we headed outside...... Firefighter Gary explained all the gear to the students as he put them on. Then, we went around to each of the children to let them touch/feel the gear. He also talked to them through his mask so they would know what it sounded like....very different! Lastly, they ended their visit with lights going and sirens blarring! Thanks to the Eagan Fire Department for their committment and dedication!!
April, 2019 ~ BREAKING NEWS ~ the preschoolers at Christ Lutheran Preschool have discovered dinosaur eggs buried in their playground!!! Yes, the preschoolers turned into paleontologists for the day. First, Miss Denise read the students a book about Scientist Tom who was a paleontogist. The book showed the students the proper use of the tools and how to crack open their eggs. The preschoolers put on their "discovery" hats and took their pail out to the playground. Each student was given a specific place to dig. Then, the digging began!! Each student was success digging for and finding their egg. After the dig was over, the students were given safety glasses and a hammer to crack open their egg. The students were very excited to see what was inside!! Yes, they found a baby dinosaur inside! They were able to take the dinosaurs and eggs home to share their experience with their families! Thanks to our aide, Miss Denise, for making the eggs and hiding them!!
March 21st ~ Family Fun Night/Open House ~ We had our first S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Night. Families were able to come and "try" out different stations with fun activites. Parents and children were able to clean pennies, make a rain cloud in a jar, code a robot caterpillar to move around the Fellowship Hall, build a structure using marshmallows and toothpicks, make cup towers, and see what objects would sink and float! It was fun showing our parents different activities that we do during our preschool time.
The month of March has the preschool class reading and studying the great author, Dr. Seuss! We have read many of Dr. Seuss' books such as; Hop on Pop, The Cat In The Hat, Ten Apples Up on Top, What Pet Should I Get and many more! We decided to make oobleck! Oobleck is like slime/playdough. Oobleck is made with corn starch and water......very easy. After much mixing, oobleck can be made into a ball and then when you put it in your hand, it becomes liquid again and "melts" in your fingers! So much fun!!!
February 14th, 2019......what do preschoolers do with 12 inches (in 3 days) of new snow.....ENJOY IT!! Our playground has about a total of 20 inches of snow on it!! Some of the preschoolers were up to their knees in the snow!! We lost 1 boot, but found it right away....and 1 mitten that won't be found until spring!! We made lots of snow angels, tunnels in the snow, moved it around with our little shovels, and attempted "Follow the Leader" but the snow was so deep!
February 5th, 2019 ........We have survived a "Polar Vortex" with 4 days of school being canceled, now an ice storm and many inches of snow.....with all those challenges, we have to play inside!! We enjoy shooting baskets, bowling, playing Toss Across and even makkng up our own games!! We have a great space to play in, but are anxious to get outside in the new snow!!
